Who needs to be chained to an office anymore? With co-working spaces and WIFI you can run your business from anywhere. Even bricks and mortar businesses need to have an online element that can automate the admin function.
Thankfully these days you have so many available apps and functions that can help you run your business cheaply and easily (when you know how).
There are so many options out there - but here are some I've used and found really useful.
1) GSuite
Google can provide you with access to your emails, as well as Google Drive (where you can store all your files and documents securely on the cloud). You can also access Sheets (a.ka. excel), Docs (a.k.a. word), and many other apps. You can download these to your phone and access (and edit) on the go.
2) Calendly
Calendly is a useful tool for scheduling meetings with clients. It shares your real-time availability with contacts. You can sync it with your preferred conferencing tool (e.g. Zoom, Teams, Meet etc) and can set event types so that it blocks out certain lengths of time in your diary.
3) Zoom
If you're using GSuite then you can make sure of Google Meet. However, another great option is Zoom. This can be accessed through your web browser (useful if you want to share your screen), or via your phone if you are needing to take a call on the go.
4) Hubdoc
This is a great tool that is available for free to all Xero subscribers. Users of other accounting software can also use it for a fee. Hubdoc enables you to take photos of your receipts and uploads them into Xero. They can then be matched in the bank reconciliation. Uploading the receipts means that you don't have to worry about keeping lots of paper receipts stored safely and ensures that you are claiming all expenses that you are entitled to.
5) Xero
We are big fans of Xero here at Blue Arrow. We are one of their partners and so can offer discounts on their standard subscription prices. Get in touch with us to enquire about this - contact details below. With HMRC's introduction of Making Tax Digital (MTD) in 2026, most business owners will need to use software. Xero has an app so that you can raise and send invoices on the go. You can also easily check your real-time financials at any time to get a true idea of business performance.
